Hermosa Beach isn't the easiest place to get to in Los Angeles, but RYLA is a great Asian Fusion spot that makes the effort worth it. It is wonderful for special occasions like birthdays and celebrations. The food is on the pricier side but the experience is lovely. My name is Ryan so my friends joke that RYLA was named after me too haha.

Nice ambience, good food, and great customer service. I will say that they should add more plant based items in the future. They even had a few non alcoholic cocktails to choose from.

Visited this spot for dinner with my coworkers yesterday, and it was an all-around fantastic experience! There's parking available across the street either in the structure or on the street, which was convenient. The ambiance here is charming--a unique blend of Western and Eastern vibes, much like the menu itself. I love that it's a husband-and-wife-owned spot, which makes the atmosphere feel even more wholesome and welcoming. They change up the menu based on what's in season, which is always a nice touch. We tried quite a few items, starting with the happy hour menu: Chicken Teriyaki Skewers - Delicious! Tender and perfectly flavored. Shishito Peppers - These were fantastic with the creamy sauce on the side. Halibut Katsu - My absolute favorite from happy hour! It was crisp, spicy, and so flavorful. For dinner, we shared: Lobster Roll - Amazing! The pairing with potato chips added a nice, crunchy texture. Yuzu Hokkaido Scallop Roll - Super refreshing, with scallops that had the perfect texture. Spicy Tuna Roll - A classic spicy tuna roll, and it didn't disappoint. Hokkaido Milk Bread - This might have been my top pick! The bread was fluffy and soft, and the nori spread added a buttery, salty richness. Spicy Miso Green Beans - These were incredible! The miso flavor brought something unique and addictive. Tteokbokki a la Vodka Sauce - So creative and delicious! The burrata added a creamy twist, and the rice cakes had a gnocchi-like look but tasted amazing. I'd definitely recommend this spot and plan to return. The portions are ideal for sharing family-style, so it's perfect for a group, but you could also enjoy a few dishes solo. It's a bit on the pricier side, but splitting a variety of dishes made it totally worth it.

We went on a Friday night and had to make a reservation few days prior. It was almost full house by the time we were done. Food, drink, and dessert were all amazing! We ordered the hokkaido bread, duck breast, truffle fried rice, karage, and summer tomato salad. Lastly, we had this chocolate black sesame dessert. Everything was very well balanced with a touch of Asian flavors. I'd say the summer tomato salad was my fav! Fyi- this was a seasonal dish for the summer. The layers of flavors kick in harmoniously..I don't know what the dressing was but it had the right amount of citrus, sweet, and even something nutty. I'd say the dressing had a hint of Asian influence to it. The atmosphere was nice with very dim lighting . Inside can get very loud. I'd come back to try other dishes.

RYLA seems to cook up what may be Pacific Rim cuisine with a primary emphasis on Japanese but with touches of Korea, Thai, France, Italy, China, even from the American South. It is a stylish restaurant with a limited front patio, long bar replete with numerous elixirs, tastefully décored main room. Japanese warm, dark wood touches everywhere with live plants hanging from the wall here & there. Zora was my culinary sherpa who guided me through the meal. She is a food fanatic like me, and since the restaurant was winding down at my 9:30pm arrival, we critiqued the food and talked shop about her favorite Vietnamese eateries. Really appreciate her friendly, welcoming hospitality. 1) Valley Pearl Oyster on a half shell was treated with watery, creamy, white coconut milk, colourful dots of spicy, red espelette chile and fruity, green aloe purée. A slice of sweetened fleshy aloe leaf was hiding underneath along with the small, velvety oyster. There's an interesting Thai vibe going on. 2) Nashville Spiced Hot Chicken Kara Agè: Chicken seems marinated in a bit of Sakè (sah keh) to make the meat more moist and firm. Loose coating is a bit crispy with a mild, chile burn. Charred Scallion Mayo has a slight green, onion funky, toasty, grainy, rich creaminess. Kara Agè is a very generous portion enough for 2-3 persons. 3) Korean style Spareribs: Piled up like a stack of wood, meat is well done almost like a jerky, along with more moist meat in other places. True to typical Korean flavour palatte, it is very direct, earthy salty, sweet, sticky with well fermented Miso-like flavours. Would go well with a bowl of steamed white rice. Side of East Asian Pear & Japanese Cucumber Kimchi that had a touch of heat, fermented saltiness. Good strong contrast to the heavy, earthy meatiness of the pork ribs. 4) Dessert: Corn Bread like Southern griddle cake or a looser Italian Polenta scored by burnt, dark hash lines topped with slices of late season yellow meat peach, pêche pochée, in sweet, white wine. The associated corn ice cream captures the very essence of creamed corn in the height of summer with grassy corn aroma. Excellent technique & knowledge to replicate the last lingering whispers of summer. My only wish was to have a few sweet corn kernels for texture as well as having thinly sliced, raw peaches to get a direct taste of the fruit itself. 1-4a) Iced Tea here is rather unique. Flavours of Mugi Cha/roasted barley, or Hōji Cha/toasted rice green tea with a touch of vanilla aroma. Zora mentioned that it was Hong Kong fermented black tea. Satisfying food that gingerly cuts through many cultures reflecting the multi-cultural L.A. scene, RYLA exposes Hermosa Beach to the richness of World Cuisine. This review is in tribute to Chef Akira Hirosè who was to have a pop up at RYLA but was canceled due to poor health which eventually led to his demise recently. Chef Akira was a pillar in the Japanese American community with his tireless effort to support Little Tōkyō.

Beautiful restaurant in Hermosa Beach. Service was good, parking can be tough but there is a lot across the street. I thought the best part of this place was the design inside. It felt like you were somewhere different and special. The food was okay. It wasn't bad, but I don't think it was worth the price. I wasn't blown away considering the pricing.

Not going to write a dish by dish review for this spot. But I will say, I don't think the value is quite there for what the prices are. That being said, we went with a group of 8 and the service was very good. Everyone liked their food. Everything was delicious, if not extremely memorable. We had just gotten back from Japan a month prior so this scratched the itch although left us missing Japan even more. Overall, I am really glad I went here and enjoyed my meal. But I am not sure if it's calling me to return.

Tried Ryla for the first time this week and I was pleasantly surprised. First the restaurant vibe is cool, darker lit, chill vibes, kind of loud. Parking can be a pain in the area so I'd give yourself some buffer between your reservation, there's a structure and street parking, but during the summer these get packed quick. I went with one other person and wanted to try everything on this menu. Ended up trying these 6 items and came out to around 200 after tip. Overall the real winner was the sashimi, so tender and the flavors from the ponzu was *chefs kiss*. Then to top it off we got the matcha tiramisu which was insane. Highly recommend this place.

This was hands down the best experience we had in any restaurant in LA for a very long time. I think people in LA would agree that service in restaurants on LA has declined after Covid. Well, not in this restaurant. We experienced top notch attentive service, from management to the server and everyone else. The manager Jimmy took his time to personally approach us right on the dot when our reservation was, apologized for running and little behind, and personally offered us wine. We truly appreciate the hospitality, even though we didn't complain one word, but were patiently waiting for our table. He checked on us multiple times, and made sure we were comfortable while waiting. Our server Evan was also super nice and friendly, and gave us some great recommendations. The food: 5 stars all the way , all of these items were 5 stars, and we are not easy to please :) We got the lobster roll, the truffle scallop roll, the sesame caesar salad , the caviar appetizer, the veggie roll. Omg, everything was super fresh and tasty. Ambience was loud, but so is every where else in LA lol ! Decor was cozy and we really enjoyed dining here Parking was valet $10 very convenient and nice valet staff. You will not go wrong with this place . Go here and thank me later !
